Megger MOM3 is the successor model to MOM2, now presenting impressive measurement capabilities with an automatic range from 0.1 μΩ to 3000 mΩ. This handheld microohmmeter is designed with ease of use, versatility and safety in mind. MOM3 impresses with a test current of up to 300 A, making it ideal for performing measurements even under difficult conditions.
One of MOM3’s remarkable features is its robustness and light weight, making it perfect for field work. With the included carrying strap, the device can be easily transported to even inaccessible test objects. The strong rubber chassis protects against drops and ensures optimal durability. MOM3 is designed to perform a full day of testing without the need for recharging. Furthermore, the device can store over 2,000 test values and transfer data to a PC via USB-C.
An innovative feature of MOM3 is its use of ultracapacitors for power generation. These ultracapacitors, with their low internal resistance, are capable of delivering high currents up to 300 A in less than 2 mΩ. The large amount of energy stored in the ultracapacitors allows multiple rapid tests in succession. MOM3’s ultra-short measurement time eliminates the need for bidirectional measurements typical of microohmmeters.

Some of MOM3’s key features include:
- Test current up to 300 A
- Battery operated
- Lightweight – 1.15 kg
- Auto range: 0.1 µΩ to 3000 Ω
- Complies with IEEE and IEC standards
Applications
The MOM3 microohmmeter is versatile and suitable for a variety of applications. It is typically used for measuring contact resistance and checking connections in low, medium and high voltage circuit breakers as well as busbar joints and connections. MOM3 is also ideal for situations where low resistance needs to be verified, such as in safety earthing connections, welding points and cables.
To avoid current and temperature issues, periodic resistance checks are essential. In addition, the table below shows the importance of low resistance at high currents.
Current | Contact resistance | Power loss |
---|---|---|
10 kA | 1 mΩ | 100 kW |
10 kA | 0.1 mΩ | 10 kW |
1 kA | 1 mΩ | 1 kW |
1 kA | 0.1 mΩ | 100 W |
